within 5 days of my parisian sojourn, i have been surrounded by the blind. ‘the blind’ as if they were a separate and disregarded subculture, apathetically and generally categorized, oh wait… story one: i was blessed to be ushered to the dente’s apartment from cdg by josh and laureen. josh, an awesome and passionate guy, who is completely blind. story two: three days later, walking to the monoprix after class, a man came up to me and asked where the metro 4 line was…i ushered him through the st. germain streets to the stairs. we talked and laughed. then i dropped him off, he was completely blind. story three: one day later, i went to calvary chapel paris. mike was talking about a group, in jean 5, questioning the origin of sin. the man who’s sin was in question? completely blind. un homme aveugle. story four: after the french service, i took the metro back to porte de clignancourt. a sweet gal decided to sit by me and asked me how many stops it was until ‘marcadet-poissonniers’. i told her it was several and continued to keep her informed. she smiled. she was completely blind. conclusion: so in my metaphysical ponderings i have tried to decipher the meaning to all these encounters…but nothing. i just hope that my life won’t become an inversion of john newton’s gospel words… a hope that my life won’t become so fast-paced and far removed that i ‘never have’ time to just ‘be’… aware. with people. in thought. with the creator.
